Confirmation Preparation aims at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit ... catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community.

Our Purpoase: Youth Confirmation Preparation gives a full experience of the Catholic faith: worship, community, service, formation. Our young disciples explore Catholicism from the inside, by the light of the Holy Spirit. They arrive at the sacrament of Confirmation prepared to continue that journey and bear witness to Christ’s saving goodness and love for a lifetime.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION PROCESS

• Candidates must be in at least tenth grade.
• Candidates need to be in formal formation in faith both the year before and the year during which they’re preparing for Confirmation – this could be at a Catholic school or a parish faith formation program.
• In addition to that ongoing formation, candidates participate in the following Confirmation Preparation (approx. 1-2 hours/month plus the retreat, which is Sat/Sun, 1.5 days):
  • Rite of Welcome (at a Mass), which begins the process.
  • Five Sunday gatherings for candidates and sponsors. Parents must attend the first and last gatherings.
  • Six monthly reflection pages for candidate and sponsor to work together on.
    • Some for candidate, some candidate and sponsor.
    • Two pages require service for a) family and b) community; we require two times (not "hours") of service to each.
  • One weekend retreat, at the church, candidates sleep at home.
  • An interview with parish leadership.
  • Rehearsal for Confirmation, Rite of Sending (at a Mass), and Reception.
• All above elements are required of all candidates.
  • Note: Additional items (e.g., new copy of Baptism Certificate within specific date parameters) also needed.

• Confirmation is typically in May (date assigned by the Archdiocese).
