Loaves & Fishes serves the hungry and homeless at the Dorothy Day Center in St Paul on the 4th Friday and Saturday of every month. Volunteers are needed every 4th Friday to cook from 2:30pm – 4:15pm, serve from 4:00pm  5:45pm  and every 4th Saturday to cook from 7:30am – 9:00am, serve from 8:30am  10:00am.  For ages 16 and older.

We would also like to solicit men to do over nights at the over flow at the Dorothy Day Center.

For the last 5 winters we have staffed, over night every night, the building next to Dorothy Day Center so up to 50 more men can come in out of the cold.  It takes 2 volunteers each night - arrive at 7:00pm and depart at 6:30am the next morning.  We sleep from 10:00pm till 5:30am.   Currently have about 85 men from a dozen different parishes involved about 1/3rd of whom are from SJN.  We opened in September (a full 2 months sooner than any fall in the past) and will remain open at least through next March.

Our mission:

  • Feed the hungry.
  • Educate the public.
  • Empower guests and volunteers.
  • Develop change for the sake of justice!
