Frequently Asked Questions:

What Masses are being live streamed and recorded?
We are currently live streaming the weekday Masses at 12:00 pm Monday through Friday. We are also live streaming two weekend Masses, Saturday at 5:00 pm and Sunday at 10:00 am. All of these Masses are being recorded and are available for later viewing.

Where can I find SJN Masses online?
You can watch the weekday and the weekend Masses live on the SJN Facebook page as well as at http://stream.sjn.org and the SJN YouTube Channel. After the Masses are complete, they are also available for later viewing at these locations.

Is there a reason you are live streaming the Masses rather than simply recording them for later viewing?
The Mass is intended to be celebrated together as a community, thus our desire to have it available virtually via the live stream. During these difficult times when we cannot be together physically, we can celebrate the Mass together. For those who cannot participate while being live-streamed, all Masses will be recorded for later viewing.

Who is participating in these Masses?
In addition to clergy, a very small number of SJN staff and/or volunteers are participating as musicians, lectors, and technical support. We try to sing loudly and respond with gusto in an effort to compensate for the empty worship space.

Do I have to have a Facebook account in order to watch the live and recorded Masses there?
No. You can watch the Masses live or view them later without a Facebook account.

I would prefer not to use social media sites like Facebook and YouTube. Does that mean I cannot watch SJN Masses online?
While many people like utilizing social media sites, others do not. This is why we are also making the live and recorded Masses available at: http://stream.sjn.org

Why are you offering the Masses online at different venues? Is there a reason why I should view the Masses in one location versus another?
We are offering the Masses at different venues for two reasons: First, with the pressure being placed on internet services these days, we want to provide some redundancy in case of outages or technical issues. Second, because we know people have different preferences in terms of internet media. As was suggested above, some people do not like utilizing social media sites while others prefer the event notifications and some of the other features provided by the social media sites.

When I view the live streams, sometimes they don't seem to start at the precisely scheduled time, what is going on?
We are making a concerted effort to start streaming the Masses at the scheduled time. However, we have noted that the content distribution networks sometimes run a bit behind our real-time feed. Typically, the delay is less than one minute. If you visit one of our streaming locations at the scheduled Mass start time and you are not seeing the Mass we suggest that you reload the web page and click on the video window again until the video appears. If the video does not appear after a couple minutes, there may be a technical issue with the site you are using and you may want to try one of the alternative viewing options.
